This is my first EVER digital painting. It took roughly 3 months (I finished two projects in between this, because I kept getting creative block).
I usually only do cartoons so this was a huge leap out of my artistic comfort zone. I wanted to mix my love for manga style characters, with my digital manipulation roots, with a tiny bit of realism. I set out to create my own type of piece and not just another regurgitated version of someone else's style.
The concept behind this piece is a young couple who are being ripped apart solely by the fact that he has to move away, and this is their last goodbye. Sometimes you don't want change, but change has to happen.
I cannot stress enough how new this is to me, so any comments are really appreciated.
Thanks so much to all the artists who helped me.
(All stock used were off a CD my art prof gave me).
Hahahaha! I actually just started doing shit like this about 6 months ago, I just tried to always better myself and its crazy how good your stuff can turn out. Trust me, if you start, you'll improve, you just need to try. Trying is 80% of the job. Just NEVER accept anything less than the best you can do at that moment, then top that.
Great first painting! I love how you used all the feedback everyone gave you to improve it. The skin tones look really nice and warm now, and I think the textures in the background and the jeans just give it that bit of extra.
Thanks! Ugh, this piece isn't doing as well as my other ones, favorites wise, but I am stepping out of my comfort zone and I need to respect the fact that it won't be a home run every time...
