Until We Meet Again by ClaytonSnow Until We Meet Again by ClaytonSnow
This is my first EVER digital painting. It took roughly 3 months (I finished two projects in between this, because I kept getting creative block).

I usually only do cartoons so this was a huge leap out of my artistic comfort zone. I wanted to mix my love for manga style characters, with my digital manipulation roots, with a tiny bit of realism. I set out to create my own type of piece and not just another regurgitated version of someone else's style.

The concept behind this piece is a young couple who are being ripped apart solely by the fact that he has to move away, and this is their last goodbye. Sometimes you don't want change, but change has to happen.

I cannot stress enough how new this is to me,
so any comments are really appreciated.

Thanks so much to all the artists who helped me.

(All stock used were off a CD my art prof gave me).

Cheers!!

This is definitely a lot better than something I could've pulled off, hahaha.

Hahahaha! I actually just started doing shit like this about 6 months ago, I just tried to always better myself and its crazy how good your stuff can turn out. Trust me, if you start, you'll improve, you just need to try. Trying is 80% of the job. Just NEVER accept anything less than the best you can do at that moment, then top that. :la:

Great first painting! I love how you used all the feedback everyone gave you to improve it. The skin tones look really nice and warm now, and I think the textures in the background and the jeans just give it that bit of extra. :D

Thanks! Ugh, this piece isn't doing as well as my other ones, favorites wise, but I am stepping out of my comfort zone and I need to respect the fact that it won't be a home run every time...

 I find favs and comments are unpredictable at best. I may do a piece I really love, but get low feed back. The next day I'll do a quick thing I don't even care for, and get tons of feed back v_v. It can be very frustrating, but the important thing is to not get discouraged! ^_^ Just keep chuggin' along, doing what you love, and improving yourself.

Thanks! Yeah, almost all of my other work is of famous people, so they have a fan base that will already be looking for art, so im sure that really helped get my work out there. This piece is all me, so its easy for it to slip into obscurity amongst the other amazing original art on the website.

Fan art is a great way to start getting your name out there, but once the rush is gone, so is the popularity. It's really a temporary fix for most artists. I'm really in no position to give advice on this sort of thing, but I think the most impressive, most popular art, is generally very eye catching, with bold colors, or striking details. A really becomes "art" through it's use of these things and attracts a wider fan base. that's just my theory though lol

The mix of textures here is well done. A little bit of shading is needed on her hair, where his hand is that because the pink and the forehead look too similar. Other then that, it looks fine.
